The Devil's Storm

In the holiest of unions, you brought us together.
Then a storm beared down that no one could weather.
Everyone said, "Leave! Why should you bother?!''
But I love this man, so help me, Oh Father!
I get on my knees and pray everynight.
I'm sure you'll help-when the timings just right.
I'll do what I can to keep the devil at bay
When he sinks in his teeth, I'll continue to pray
I have to admit that the serpent is clever
All ties to you, he struggles to sever.
He passes his poison, as sweet as confection
"Forget about God! I'll give you affection!"
"Just try it one time"...and you've altered your fate
Satan whispered and smiled , "he's taken my bait!"
"Come one, come all! You'll love this feeling!"
"Well worth the small price of stealing and killing!"
Oh, he's got you now, each commandment you'll break
But reality is, you're his slave--it's too late
You can't back out now, you've made a deal with the devil
Try to break it and walk; in pain you shall revel
Now, you're lost in the world. The drugs make you blind.
Misled in your journey, so God, you can't find.
Through sickness and sadness, depression and fury
You never knew cause your mind was all blurry.
I've begged and I've pleaded, screamed and I've cried-
The promises you broke; all the times you have lied!
So my husband's an addict, since the very first day-
weeks, months and years quickly scurried away.
Despite the times we sat and talked--
Despite my threats to pack and walk
I made a vow through health and sickness-
Could never imagine what I would witness
This man, I'll love throughout my life
I've done my job as friend and wife.
Okay, you devil, you're bigger than me
Pain and heartache is all I see.
"I'll throw the towel in. That's right, You win!"
And it's at that moment that God stepped in.
He lifted the haze over his heroin habit
He threw him a rope- my husband, he grabbed it!
Faith seen me through and not a moment too late.
We've been steered from the storm, it was well worth the wait
God rescued my family-and I wish you the best.
Stand firm to your faith-it's only a test!
